Exactly what this website stores in your browser, what each item does, and how to change your mind.

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Some are needed for the site to work at all. Others watch how the site is used. Some sites use them to follow people from site to site and sell advertising off the back of it. We do not do that.
Nothing is stored until you say yes
When you first arrive, a short notice asks whether we may use Google Analytics. Until you answer, and if you answer no, this website stores nothing on your device and no analytics run. That is the whole of it.
If you allow it, two things happen. We remember your answer so you are not asked again, and Google Analytics starts recording which pages get read.
What we use
Your choice about analytics
Stored in your browser under the name dx-consent. It holds one word, yes or no. It stays until you clear your browser data. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, it simply stops the notice reappearing on every page.
Google Analytics, only if you allow it
- _ga tells one browser apart from another so a visit is not counted twice. It lasts two years.
- _ga_ followed by a code, which holds the state of your current visit. It also lasts two years.
We use this to see which pages are useful and which are ignored. We have turned on the setting that shortens your internet address before it is stored, so we cannot tie a visit to a person, and we have never enabled advertising features, audience sharing or any of the signals that would let this follow you elsewhere.
Signing in to the admin area
If you are a member of staff signing in to manage the site, a session cookie keeps you signed in until you close the browser or sign out. It does nothing for ordinary visitors and is never set unless somebody signs in.
What we do not use
- No advertising or retargeting cookies
- No social media tracking pixels
- No sharing of your browsing with data brokers
- No fingerprinting or any attempt to identify you without a cookie
Changing your mind
Click Cookies in the footer of any page and the notice comes back, so you can change your answer. If you switch from yes to no, analytics stops straight away.
You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings, under privacy. Every browser offers this, and blocking everything will not stop this website working.
